Hi I’m Tiago and this video is about H.R. Giger, one of the most famous science fiction artists of all time and one of my great inspirations. H.R. Giger was born in 1940 in Switzerland and his style was adapted for many forms of media, including movies, record albums, furniture and tattoos. His father was a pharmacist that did not believe in art as a profession however Giger moved to Zürich in 1962 to study architecture and industrial design. His first success was when an owner of a publishing company printed and distributed his posters. Giger was best known for his airbrushed images of humans and machines biomechanically linked together and his main influences were Salvador Dalí and surrealist sculptors. He later abandoned the airbrush for pastels, markers, and ink and was also a part of the special effects team that won an Academy Award for design on the film Alien. Giger also created furniture designs for the film Dune and David Lynch directed it using his rough sketches. His books of paintings and the frequent appearances on magazines made him rise to success even further. He is also well known for artwork on several music recording albums including Deborah Harry’s KooKoo and he applied his biomechanical style to interior design resulting in two Giger Bars in Switzerland and one in Tokyo. Also his artwork was licensed to decorate the VIP room at The Limelight club in Manhattan. In 1998 Giger acquired the Château St. Germain in Switzerland that is now the H.R. Giger Museum. He died in 2014 in Zürich after suffering injuries from a fall. What inspires me the most about his work is his amazing creativity as well as his perfect skill for shading which creates such a believable three dimensional effect. Thank you so much for watching and see you next time. Bye
