Be sure to check the photo and text tutorial in the ling below, as it helps understanding parts of this tutorial better and they are meant to be viewed together:
NOTE: in tutorial, I called safety pin the safety needle or safe needle… I did this out of habit (long story), but it is best to explain it here.
But all in all, here is a tutorial for easy to make sculpting tools made out very easy to find materials. And even you can’t for some reason find spatulas, wooden skewers or toothpicks, you could always carve them out of any old piece of wood you might be having lying around the house. The other materials are also something that basically every household has, I think, so…
Anyway, this is meant for people who want to sculpt something out of clay or polymer clay or similar materials, but currently either can’t afford or for any other reason don’t wan’t to buy professional tools for this.
These are not extremely durable and not meant for very hard materials, but they will last with some care and are so easily replaceable, that it really pays off making them.
Also, these tools are made with miniatures artists in mind more than others. Especially toothpick and wooden skewers tools will give you precision in details when it comes to miniatures.
One thing: I didn’t cover the making of hook/pick tool, by shear mistake. Since I’m guessing a number of people would want to know how to make this one as well, I’ll cover this in a drawn tutorial soon, so do pay attention to my page in the next few days, if you’re interested in that one.
One other thing and please be aware of that: I DO NOT SELL already made tools of any kind. This is tutorial for those who want to make their own. I don’t sell the tools because they would end up very expensive for the customer, which defeats the main purpose of easy to make, cheap tools in the first place. So if you wondered about that, the answer in advance is : no.
Enjoy the tutorial and I hope you make wonderful tools with its help!
