This is why there should be rotation sensors on the fans used on refrigeration systems. If the fan were to fail, the compressor will overheat. The compressor does not know WHY it overheated, and it will restart when it cools off enough. The cycle repeats, and can eventually damage the compressor.

In this video, I jam the fan blades with a screwdriver and wait for the compressor to overheat to show what happens.

It runs and runs and runs, until it can’t run no more. This also occurs since the coils are not having air drawn across them, the cycle repeats upon itself, and the decompression of the refrigerant is not happening as efficiently. This means that the compressor is trying to compress refrigerant that is still under a lot of pressure, and eventually the system has so much pressure the compressor stalls.

First stall at 17:45. Second stall at 23:15.
