James managed to get an appointment to shoot the new integrally suppressed .300BLK ULTRA lightweight AR upper from Witt Machine. The results are impressive. MSRP for a complete upper with suppressor is $1500, including a nickel boron bolt carrier group. This is a one-stamp gun, i.e., it is NOT a short barreled rifle under NFA because it has a 16″ barrel due to the permanently attached silencer.
From Steve’s article this morning:
New from genius designer Ken Witt is a fully suppressed .300 Blackout upper reciever for the AR-15. The receiver has a 16″ barrel with built in suppressor that spans about two thirds of the barrel length. The suppressor adds no extra length to the barrel and instead bleeds gas along the length of the barrel. The suppressor itself sits inside an attractive honey-comb style handguard, adding almost no bulk and no extra length to the upper receiver.
The suppressor is made with titanium parts and is user serviceable. Titanium keeps the weight VERY low and because it is an integral suppressor, the weight is distributed along the barrel, not hanging off the end of the gun ruining balance. The barrel sleeve is available with Polished Titanium, High Temp Graphite Black, or FDE Cerakote finishes.
The upper receiver, which comes with a Nickel Boron Treated bolt carrier group, weighs in at 4.4 lbs.
I thoroughly enjoyed shooting at Media Day with subsonic .300 BLK rounds. It is light, quiet well balanced and looks good. What more can you ask for? Price you say? At $1,500 (+ one tax stamp) it is price quite a lot lower than other integrally suppressed uppers.
